NBA election: Vote count underway

KATHMANDU, April 5: Vote count under the 26th central working committee election of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) is currently underway.

KATHMANDU, April 5: Vote count under the 26th central working committee election of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) is currently underway. 



The vote count that was scheduled to begin at 9:00AM began an hour later due to management issues, according to senior advocate and chief election officer of the NBA-2078, Usha Malla Pathak. 


The voting was organized at all 35 voting centers including in Kathmandu on April 2.

Ballot boxes from all 34 voting centers outside the Kathmandu Valley have already been brought to Kathmandu, Pathak said. 


For the 25-member working committee including a chairman and 11 office bearers, 9,708 advocates cast their votes. 


Among them, 5,700 were from the Kathmandu Valley and the remaining from outside the Valley. Progressive and professional legal practitioners, and broader democratic progressive inclusive and professional legal practitioners had made separate panels for the election. 


The progressive panel has been led by senior advocate Bishnu Hari Adhikari and the broader democratic one by senior advocate Gopal Krishna Ghimire. For the post of chairperson of the NBA, eight persons--from group and individual level--have filed candidacies.
