KATHMANDU, Nov 23: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has said that people have been unable to sense the presence of a government even as Prime Minister KP Oli has been heading a two-thirds majority government since the past nine months.
At a press conference organized at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Thursday, NC spokesman Bishwa Prakash Sharma alleged that the new government had failed to deliver on all fronts including law and order, addressing grievances of disgruntled groups and its much-touted journey toward prosperity.

Sharma said that the current government had been a total failure in terms of maintaining law and order in the country and the promise of good governance has proven hollow. While stating that the family of Nirmala Panta, who was raped and subsequently murdered in July, had almost given up their hope that the culprit will be punished, he asked the government to form a separate all-powerful investigation team to probe the incident.
Sharma alleged that judiciary had been highly politicized and that conspiracies were being hatched by the government itself to derail federalism. NC also criticized the government for failing to expand popular ownership of the constitution. Although the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leaders had promised to bring an amendment to the constitution in their election campaigns to address grievance of disgruntled Madhesis, the government has failed to do anything significant on this front.
Sharma also questioned the intention of the Prime Minister’s Office for bringing all projects of over Rs 250 million investment in its ambit and said the move contradicts the spirit of federalism. The party also demanded an impartial investigation into the wide-body aircraft procurement by the Nepal Airlines Corporation.
