KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker has objected to the government accusing it of openly voicing in support of Venezuela's ongoing political crisis.

Speaking at the parliament meeting today NC lawmaker Parbati DC Chaudhary questioned about the government’s intention of endorsing the statement issued by NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on the recent political development of Venezuela.

DC questioned what benefits Nepal would reap by supporting the country that Nepal has very limited interaction with.

Dahal had issued a statement in favor of newly elected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro which subsequently had been echoed by the NCP.

“Nepal is getting financial supports from the USA more than India. It would be unwise to issue a statement in favor of Venezuela, while denouncing the USA,” claimed Chaudhary.

Meanwhile, independent lawmaker Prem Suwal sought the government’s official stance about Venezuela.

“It should be floated in the parliament for discussion,” demanded Suwal.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Pushpa Bhusal has accused the government of giving protection to the culprit involved in the Nirmala case, demanding death penalty to those involved in the rape of girls below 16 years of age.

Lawmaker Dila Sangraula has questioned how the government would achieve the goal of ‘Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali’ when the financial indicators are not good.
