KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Arguing that the low-income people will be badly affected by the fuel price hike on the eve of the Tihar festival, senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Prakash Man Singh has urged the government to reconsider its decision to hike the prices of petroleum products.

Speaking at a program organized by Nepali Congress Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8 Ward Unit Committee to exchange greetings and best wishes on the occasion of Diwali, Nepal Sambat and Chhath festivals, leader Singh suggested to  the government to move toward curbing wasteful expenditure of the Nepal Oil Corporation by analyzing all aspects of its management, instead of hiking the prices of petroleum products.

Criticizing the government’s move to hike the prices of petroleum products, Singh argued that there was ample scope for reducing the losses incurred by the corporation through alternative ways.

Arguing that the current government was formed under the leadership of the Nepali Congress to take the country beyond the status quo, he stressed the need for the government to work according to the wishes of the people. “The rise in fuel prices has negative impacts on the people’s lives. I urge the government to reconsider its decision to hike the prices of petroleum products," he said.
