POKHARA, April 13: President of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba has called his party members to demonstrate that their intra-party feud has been settled through the Pokhara By-election.

Speaking at a program organized by NC-aligned Nepal Women's Union, Pokhara, on the occasion of the Nepali New Year, Deuba said that the Pokhara by-election should send the message that intra-party power tussle has come to an end.

Kaski-2 is braced for the by-election to fill the empty seat of Member of Parliament from the constituency following the untimely death of then Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari in a chopper crash in Taplejung in February. The date for the by-election, however, has not been fixed.

Expressing his views on the upcoming by-election, NC President Deuba said, “Our supporters in the constituency should all work together in this election to show that the factional politics has come to an end.”

Former Prime Minister Deuba also criticized the activities of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli-led government. He accused the government of incompetency, claiming that the government has failed to produce even a single commendable work in the past one year.

“The current government has not been able to deliver a single good work in the past one year,” he said, “Instead, corruption and rapes have increased.”

At the program, senior leader of the party Ram Chandra Poudel claimed that NC will be dealt a great blow if the general convention of the party is not held in ten months time. Expressing his belief that the communists are trying to impose communism in Nepal, Poudel said, “If we want to stop the invasion of communism, we must first make sure that the general convention of the party is held on the set date.”
