KATHMANDU, Feb 25: The Nepali Congress has passed the statute for federal parliamentary party with some amendment.
The NC parliamentary party meeting held in Singha Durbar Saturday passed the statute presented by leader Minendra Rijal. Now, for the approval, the statute would be passed to the central committee.
The central committee meeting beginning Sunday would initiate process to pick the party leader after approving the statute, said Chief Secretary at party office, Krishna Prasad Poudel.
The meeting thanked party President Sher Bahadur Deuba for successfully holding the three-tier elections, thereby ensuring a strong foundation to implement the constitution and federalism.
NC to approve federal parliamentary party statute today
The meeting demanded President Bidya Devi Bhandari to immediately withdraw her decision to scrap the recommendation then government led by NC President Deuba made for the three members to the National Assembly. The party said President's decision was unconstitutional.
NC prepared the new statute in view of the federal parliament having the National Assembly and the House of Representatives. The statute paves way for electing the parliamentary party leader.
It is said utmost efforts would be made to elect the parliamentary party leader unanimously. However, if the consensus eludes, election is the option to wage.
Most of the speakers, including Ram Chandra Poudel and Bijay Kumar Kumar Gachchhadar underscored NC's strong role to make federal democratic republic effective.
