NCCC to take Nepali cricketers to Canada

KATHMANDU, April 2: The former coach of the Nepal national cricket team Pubudu Dassanayake on Monday said that he will take three Nepali cricketers to play in the Canadian league for the upcoming season.

KATHMANDU, April 2: The former coach of the Nepal national cricket team Pubudu Dassanayake on Monday said that he will take three Nepali cricketers to play in the Canadian league for the upcoming season. 



Speaking after being awarded from the Nepalese Canadian Cricket Club (NCCC), Sri Lanka-born Canada coach Dassanayake said that he has a special relationship with the Nepali cricket. 


Dassanayake is seen as a father figure among the Nepali players as he took Nepal to the T20 World Cup in 2014 and helped the country qualify for the World Cricket League Championship. Dassanayake expressed his happiness after being awarded by the Nepali society in Toronto.

The Nepalis residing in Canada had established the club in Greater Toronto Area. The club had felicitated Dassanayake on the occasion of their gathering. 


On the same occasion, the club’s advisor and former sports journalist Santosh Ojha highlighted Nepal’s ODI status and contribution of Dassanayake in Nepali cricket. Ojha further said that NCCC will play Brampton Cricket League to be held in Toronto this year. 


National team captain Paras Khadka and vice-captain Gyanendra Malla also congratulated the club and wished for further success via a video message. Khadka and Malla had earlier played in Canada’s domestic league earlier from Dassanayake’s effort. 


The club informed that it will organize Nepali Cricket Festival in Toronto after three months and they decided to take a player of the Nepali national team.
