KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has planned to invest an additional Rs 364.71 billion in the construction of infrastructure related to electricity supply in the next four years.
Unveiling its plan on Thursday, NEA said the money will be invested in mega projects including the high-powered transmission lines. Investment in hydropower projects, subsidiary companies and reform in the electricity distribution system are among the other framework plans in which the state utility monopoly will be injecting the earmarked amount.

Through its subsidiaries, NEA is constructing the reservoir-based 635MW Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project and the 1,061MW Upper Arun. Similarly, it will be investing in projects such as Chainpur Seti, Upper Modi, Uttarganga, Kulekhani Pump Storage and Rupa-Begnas Pump Storage projects. Likewise, transmission lines with capacity of 220 KV and 400 KV will be constructed at a number of locations across the country.
According to NEA, in the current fiscal year, it is investing Rs 102 billion while the investment plan for the next fiscal year is Rs 86.63 billion. Similarly, the government enterprise will be investing Rs 88.42 billion in 2023/24 and Rs 87.04 billion in 2024/25.
NEA has projected to earn Rs 96.28 billion from selling electricity in the current fiscal year.
