KATHMANDU, Oct 31: The Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) has called for immediate government action to address the escalating fire incidents and severe air pollution in Kathmandu and other urban areas. With air quality levels reaching 50.9 micrograms per cubic meter—ten times higher than WHO standards—schools have already postponed classes.
In just one week, 32 fires occurred, raising concerns about inadequate responses from state agencies. In a press release issued by the forum, it has emphasized the need for the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Forests and Environment to implement existing action plans effectively.

They reminded authorities that Article 30 of the Constitution guarantees the right to a clean environment and includes provisions for compensation for those affected by pollution. Immediate measures are essential to prevent further disasters and protect public health before the next monsoon season, it is mentioned in the statement.
