KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Standing committee member of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Suvash Chandra Nemwang on Monday stated that the constitution should not be amended just for the sake of personal benefits.
Nemwang's reaction comes a day after NCP's Executive Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal proposed for the formation of a study taskforce for constitution amendment. Nembang was said to be one of the three members of the task force.

"As a responsible party, NCP should not take any initiative to amend the constitution just to facilitate a particular person," he argued. According to him, amending a constitution is a grave issue and should be forwarded in a responsible manner. "Moreover, transparency is mandatory."
He, however, admitted that the constitution can be amended based on necessity and logical grounds,
Reminding the fact that the constitution amendment couldn't proceed ahead when Madhesh-based parties voiced for it, he shared that he couldn't believe that the party secretariat meeting took the decision of forming the task force only to benefit particular individuals.
He also revealed that party general secretary Bishnu Poudel had informed him that no decision was taken in the secretariat meeting regarding the issue. "I have not been informed formally about the decision taken in this connection," he added.
He also reiterated that the issue of the amendment should be transparent and must be taken forward accordingly.
