Nepal detects first two cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Nepal has detected the first two cases of Omicron variant on Monday.



According to Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), two cases of Omicron variant have been confirmed in Nepal. The MoHP has called an emergency meeting today to discuuss new strategies to tackle this virus after the new variant of COVID-19 was detected in the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has dubbed Omicron as a "variant of concern" as it is potentially more contagious than previous variants of the disease. It was first detected in South Africa and has now spread to over 20 countries worldwide.
