Nepal has met the air safety standards: Minister Shrestha

KATHMANDU, August 17: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha has said that Nepal has made significant progress in the field of air safety.

KATHMANDU, August 17: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha has said that Nepal has made significant progress in the field of air safety.



Addressing the 21st Annual General Meeting organized by the Nepal Air Traffic Controllers Association in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister Shrestha expressed his belief that Nepal will soon be removed from the European Union (EU) air ban list as it has met the air safety standards. He also claimed that Nepal's air safety standards is 'better than the world average


In the test of the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO), the average rate of implementation of aviation safety standards of Nepal was found to be 70.1 percent. The EU delegation will soon come to Nepal and conduct on-site monitoring and reconsider the decision regarding the air ban list.

Stating that EU ban on Nepali airlines is a matter related to Nepal's international reputation, Minister Shrestha said that Nepali aircraft will be able to fly in European skies after the ban is lifted.


Since 2013, the EU has placed Nepal on the air ban list, while ICAO has lifted the ban since 2017. Minister Shrestha said that all stakeholders should be responsible for making the air service safe, regular and efficient.


Minister Shrestha also said that the role of air traffic controller is important as the field of aviation is technical and specific in nature. Former Director General of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Triratna Manandhar and others were honored in the program.
