The Kathmandu Valley recorded 36.59 percent of the confirmed cases across the country on Thursday
KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Nepal has recorded the highest single-day spike of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the past 24 hours, reported the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
As many as 4,364 more people tested positive for this viral infection, the highest number in a day since the country reported the first case on January 23 earlier this year.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is inching closer to the 100,000 mark, just short of 1,383 cases.
Of the newly-confirmed cases, Kathmandu district witnessed 2,085 while the two other districts in the Valley are among the districts with a high number of cases confirmed today.
In the past 24 hours, 18,473 real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests were conducted at various labs across the country to discover the new cases – 2,803 males and 1,561 females. The country has so far conducted a total of 1,131,958 PCR tests to confirm 98,617 cases.
According to the COVID-19 updates released by the ministry on Thursday, the total number of COVID-19 recoveries throughout the country stands at 71,343 while the mortality rate accounts for 0.59 percent.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 caseload in the Kathmandu Valley jumped to 36,089, more than one-third of the total cases detected across the country.
