Nepal’s progress in industries, infrastructure and start-ups during 2016-2019 unsatisfactory: SDG progress report

KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Nepal’s progress in industries, infrastructure and start-ups, production and distribution is slow against the government target, shows the progress report of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) unveiled by the National Planning Commission (NPC).

KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Nepal’s progress in industries, infrastructure and start-ups, production and distribution is slow against the government target, shows the progress report of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) unveiled by the National Planning Commission (NPC).



The NPC’s report includes the performance of 479 indicators in169 quantitative targets set by the country during 2016 and 2019. The performance was assessed on the basis of the statistics of the concerned sectors of 2015.

According to the report, Nepal has achieved notable improvement in poverty alleviation over the review period. The country’s absolute poverty dropped to 18.6 percent while the multidimensional poverty came down to 28.6 percent.


Similarly, the growth rate of real gross domestic product stood at 5.6 percent. The ratio of consumption to income of the lower 40 percent income population has increased.


The report shows that school enrolment for primary level education has increased to 97.2 percent and 89.5 percent of the school going children complete primary level education.
