KATHMANDU, Oct 17: The Nepali Army (NA) has said it has returned 586 firearms to the Nepal Police that were looted during the nationwide unrest following the Gen Z protests.
The army had assumed responsibility for maintaining peace and security across the country from midnight on September 9, after widespread violence erupted during the demonstrations.

According to the NA, a total of 978 firearms were either looted or lost on September 9, and 307 police stations across the country were damaged—most of them set on fire.
During its security operation, the army issued a public notice urging people to return stolen or looted weapons. Following the appeal, several individuals voluntarily handed over firearms to the army, the statement said.
The national army also reported that 688 government offices, 259 private houses, 128 business establishments, and 198 offices of political parties were destroyed during the protests.
