Nepali origin family among the dead in horrifying flood in New York City

NEW YORK, Sept 3: 40 people including a Nepali origin family have died due to flood in New York City (NYC). NYC has faced a historic weather event on Wednesday with record-breaking heavy rain across the city. The city had a brutal flooding and dangerous conditions in the Subway, roads and on the ground floor of many houses.

NEW YORK, Sept 3: 40 people including a Nepali origin family have died due to flood in New York City (NYC). NYC has faced a historic weather event on Wednesday with record-breaking heavy rain across the city. The city had a brutal flooding and dangerous conditions in the Subway, roads and on the ground floor of many houses.



The Nepali origin family - a mother, a father and their 19 months old son - was found unconscious in the basement of their Woodside home on 64th Street around 10PM Wednesday night. All three were pronounced dead later.

The deceased have been identified as Aang Gelu Lama, his wife Mingmar Sherpa and their 19-month old son Lopsang Lama. They originally hailed from Dudhkunda Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu district.


Due to the heavy rain and massive wind, The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency in New York City for the first time. Similarly, various parts of New Jersey and New York like Newark Airport, Elizabeth, Mullica hill, NorthPlain Field, North Bergen, Millburn, Manhatten , Queens, Yonkers  and Brooklyn are also very much affected by the life-threatening weather.
