KATHMANDU, Oct 10: A total of 49 Nepalis who were attempting to enter the United States (US) illegally through various countries have been sent back to Nepal. They were sent back from Turkey on Saturday, en route to the US via Mexico. They tried to enter America through different countries including India and Mexico.
Those Nepalis who came back to their country had prepared all the documents from India and were headed to America. They were sent back to Kathmandu via a Turkish Airlines plane.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Pangeni of the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau said that there are many Nepalis who attempt to enter the US illegally. According to him, Nepalis enter the US by road through Mexico through various brokers. “There is a huge network of human traffickers. From October 5 to October 9, 290 Nepalis with fake documents were returned from the Tribhuvan International Airport alone, claiming they were headed for other countries, including the US,” Pangeni said.

"Foreign citizens who wish to enter the US must first obtain a visa," he said. A passport is a travel document issued by the traveler’s country of citizenship. Certain international travelers may be eligible to travel to the US without a visa if they meet the requirements for visa-free travel.
According to the bureau, the number of Nepalis entering the US illegally is more than 2,000 annually. An official of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security said that people from other countries are also entering the US illegally using fake passports from Nepal. It has been found that people from other countries are also entering the US illegally using fake Nepali passports. Therefore, it is not known for sure how many Nepalis illegally enter America every year or try to do so," he said.
Chief Immigration Officer of Tribhuvan International Airport Immigration Office Gogan Bahadur Hamal informed Republica that Nepalis are thinking of going abroad in different ways now. According to him, at different times, Nepalis have been stranded in different countries while attempting to enter America.
"Many Nepalis who were trying to enter America illegally are apprehended by Turkish border police and sent back to Nepal," Hamal added.
Another officer of the Department of Immigration (DoI) stated that 22 Nepalis arrived in Kathmandu by a Turkish Airlines plane on Monday.
An officer of the DoI said that no further action was taken upon their return. "No further action was taken upon their return, as they were also victims of deception and left without further legal proceedings," the official stated.
