New army chief Prabhu Ram Sharma takes office

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Prabhu Ram Sharma assumed his office today. General Sharma was appointed as the 44th army chief amid a function at Shital Niwas on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Prabhu Ram Sharma assumed his office today. General Sharma was appointed as the 44th army chief amid a function at Shital Niwas on Thursday. 



He took the oath in the presence of President Bidya Devi Bhandari in accordance with Section 9 (2) of the Army Act 2006.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana, Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota and Chief of National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timalsina were also present on the occasion. 


General Sharma will hold the post for three years. He is the first army chief from the Brahmin community. He hails from Lamjung.
