NFC keeps adulterated food grains, sat on rice meant for earthquake survivors

KATHMANDU, August 28: Food grains at Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) warehouse have been adulterated with sands and small pieces of pebbles, a government monitoring team has found. 



During the  inspection of NFC storage and distribution outlet based at Thapathali in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister for Supplies Shiva Kumar Mandal found inedible stuff in the packages of beans and buckwheat.

The minister also found that the NFC warehouse had not yet distrusted rice imported for earthquake survivors two years ago.


Issuing a statement on Sunday, Ministry of Supplies said that stone, sand and dust were found in the sacks of beans supplied from Mugu and Kalikot districts. 


NFC has already supplied 40 quintal of beans from the Thapathali warehouse to flood victims, according to Bheshnath Neupane, chief of Bagmati zonal branch of NFC. 


Similarly, 708 quintals of buckwheat were also found to be adulterated with dust. 


Neupane, however, denied taking responsibility for the adulterated food grains. He said that it was purchased during the tenure of his predecessor. Minister Mandal has directed the NFC officials to stop sending thee substandard food grains to flood victims.
