KATHMANDU, Oct 2: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for 2023 has been awarded to Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications, enabling effective mRNA vaccines to develop against COVID-19.
According to the reports by international news media, the award was given to Katalin Karikó, a professor at Sagan's University in Hungary and an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania, and Drew Weissman, who performed his prizewinning research together with Karikó at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Guardian, a British daily newspaper, has reported Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman shared the 11m Swedish kronor (£823,000) prize announced on Monday by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.
Since its inception in 1901, the Nobel Prize has been awarded to scientists who have made the most important discoveries for the benefit of humankind.
