KATHMANDU, Jan 26: A probe committee of the National Sports Council (NSC), the apex sports governing body of Nepal, has termed contract agreement for organizing the Nepal T-20 League as illegal.
A report submitted on Wednesday by a five-member investigation committee formed by the NSC has declared the contract agreement illegal in the context that the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) did not follow the due process to hand over the management of the league to a foreign company.
NAC seeks compensation from IAI for delay in repair
The NSC had sought necessary documents from CAN on January 4 regarding the league that has courted controversy. The probe committee found that CAN did not follow the rules while signing a contract with an Indian company and has recommended the sports governing body to immediately declare the deal as null and void.
The NSC had recently formed a five-member task force to investigate irregularities in the league after reports of match fixing and other inconsistencies surfaced while the league was underway.
The report submitted by the investigation committee concluded that CAN did not comply with the prevailing laws, rules and conditions in Section 28 of the National Sports Development Act, 2077 and the provisions in Subsection 920 of Section 44 regarding the agreements with foreign partner companies during the Nepal T-20 League.
The committee has also recommended the NSC to take action against those found guilty of suspicious activities related to match fixing by an investigation carried out by the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police in accordance with the prevailing law and Section 33 of the National Sports Development Act, 2077.
