NEPALGUNJ, July 30: A person was held in possession of a huge cache of silver jewelry being unlawfully imported from India.



Acting on a special tip-off, police arrested Subhash Gupta with five kilograms and 495 grams of silver jewelry from nearby Nepalgunj sub-metropolis-8, Tanga Station on Monday evening, shared Banke Police Chief SP Bir Bahadur Wali.

Police arrested him in course of security screening. The precious metals seized from him was trialed with support from the Gold and Silver Entrepreneurs Association Banke. After the trial, the metal was reduced to two kilograms, 717 grams, and 500 milligrams silver, police officials confirmed.


The silver jewelry is said to be equivalent to Rs 171,241. Gupta, 31, of Gulariya municipality-6, Bardiya has been residing in a rented room at Dewafulbari of Nepalgunj. Police apprehended him while he was importing silver jewelry to Bardia from India. Gupta was handed to Nepalgunj Customs Office for necessary actions, SP Wali informed.
