KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Majority of MBBS graduates, who appeared in a licensing examination on Saturday by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC), have failed the exam.

After completing the bachelor's or master's degrees in medical sciences, new graduates must pass the licensing test conducted by the NMC to be eligible to practice medicine in Nepal. The NMC held the licensing examinations on December 2 for MBBS (bachelor of medicine, bachelor of medicine) and BDS (bachelor in dental surgery) graduates from Nepal and other countries.

NMC registrar Dr Dilip Sharma said that the results of Saturday exams show that most of those failing the exams are graduates from foreign universities.

The students who passed the bachelor's degrees in medical sciences mainly from Bangladesh, Nepal, China, and Philippines had sat for the exams on Saturday.

There are more than 21,000 doctors registered with the NMC after passing the licensing examinations, according to the NMC.
