JAJARKOT, July 17: As many as 1,400 children are living in vulnerable conditions in Jajarkot and the numbers are expected to increase, a data by the district’s Women and Children Office shows. Of those vulnerable identified so far, the number of vulnerable girls (695) was higher than boys. However, both were found to be at almost equal risks with over 650 each.

“Once the study is completed in all wards, the numbers are likely to increase,” the Office said.

Despite vulnerability, the local government has turned a deaf ear to the problem. The Women and Children Office had measured vulnerability in set criteria: orphans, street children and those having poor economic conditions.

There is high chance that the number of children at risk can go up as data collection is yet to be done in all wards, shared the Women and Children Office. Some 34 children were rescued this year, the office source added. RSS
