RASUWA, Sept 11: Three-and-a-half years after the devastating earthquake, over 800 locals of Rasuwa district, which was one of the hardest hit districts, are yet to begin reconstruction of their houses.
According to the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), 834 locals of Rasuwa who have received the first tranche of housing grant are yet to begin their house reconstruction. They had received Rs 50,000 as the first tranche amount.
As per the information provided by the District Level Project Implementation Unit of Rasuwa, 84 households in Kalika, 113 households in Gosainkunda, 177 households in Naukunda, 315 households in Uttargaya, and 145 households in Aamachodingmo rural municipalities are yet to begin the reconstruction.
District HQ looks deserted as quake victims return home
According to the office, they have requested the beneficiaries to return the grant amount if they do not intend to reconstruct their houses. All five local units have published notice urging the beneficiaries to immediately initiate the reconstruction.
As of now, 62 percent beneficiaries have claimed the third tranche of the housing grant. As the third tranche of grant is provided for roofing, those who receive the third tranche of the grant are assumed to have completed the house reconstruction.
Rasuwa has a total of 12,490 beneficiaries. Among them, 11,223 have received the first tranche of the grant while 10,092 have received the second tranche. But only 7,039 have received the third tranche.
Nonetheless, reconstruction works have gathered pace in the district of late. Quake victims could be seen rushing to manage reconstruction materials. However, rural settlements that are not connected with road network are facing difficulties in transporting the construction materials.
Residents of rural areas have to transport construction materials from far places, adding to their difficulties. Even the available road networks are in bad shape due to monsoon rains.
