RUPANDEHI, March 10: Following pressures from the opposition and the ruling party members, the assembly of Province 5 formed a special committee to recommend the name and capital of the province. However, the committee is nowhere close to making any recommendations despite missing two deadlines.

This 15-member committee's first deadline expired on November 9 and another three months were extended. However, the committee failed to submit the report even in those three months. Knowing that the second deadline will expire Saturday (March 9), provincial assembly meeting held on March 6 extended the deadline up to June 19.

The dillydallying by the committee has widely disappointed the electorate. Any recommendation made by the committee will have to be approved by a two-thirds majority of the provincial assembly.

Kalpana Pandey, lawmaker as well as the member of Ratriya Janata Party stated that she learnt about the deadline extension only after the speaker of the parliament proposed it in the assembly.

Speaker of the province Purna Bahadur Gharti informed Republica that deadline was extended as the remaining time was not enough to evaluate and analyze the suggestions collected from the district.
