Parliamentarians to discuss for first historic session

KATHMANDU, MAR 4: The Federal Parliament Secretariat will decide agenda for the first parliamentarian meet in post-federal system by discussing with representatives of five political parties. 



The meeting is likely to discuss working modality and agree on dates for elections of Speaker, Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Chair and vice chairperson of the National Assembly.  It also will set dates where the government will seek vote of confidence.  


 “We have completed our preparations to hold the first historic session of Nepal’s federal parliament that was summoned by the President on February 18,” Bharat Raj Gautam, spokesperson of the Secretriat said.

In addition, another provision makes it necessary that the speaker, deputy speaker, chair and vice chairperson should be from different parties and gender. 


The International Convention Center at New Banewshwor will witness the historic session where National Assembly members and HoR will be sworn in the oath at 4 and 5 PM respectively.  


Mahendra Ray Yadav (RJPN) and Taradevi Bhatta (Nepali Congress) will shoulder responsibilities of Speaker and National Assembly Chairperson until elections for both the positions take place.


The constitution provisions that election of speaker and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and chairperson and vice-chairperson of the National Assembly should be held within 15 days after the first meeting of the federal parliament.


President Bidya Devi Bhandari will administer oath to both senior most members Yadav and Bhatta at 1:00 PM, today.


The Secretariat has been officially informed that 44 members in the federal parliament, 38 to the House of Representatives and remaining six in the National Assembly, are taking oath in mother tongues. They would be using Maithali, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Tharu, Magar Kham, Awadhi, Bajjika, Tamang and Urdu languages.
