TERHATHUM, Nov 23: Political parties in Tehrathum are making final attempts to seek the favor of voters by intensifying their campaigns. In order to convince the voters, candidates are not just selling their dreams and highlighting their strengths but are also pointing out to the weaknesses of their opponents. They are not just found reminding the locals of their accomplishments but are also found blaming their opponents' parties for various failures.
Political observers say that the 'blame game' has been just another strategy for both the democratic and leftist forces in the eleventh hour. Candidates are publicly accusing their rivals for conducting anti-election activities aimed at disrupting the polls. Speaking at a public gathering on Monday, state minister Sita Gurung who is the parliamentary candidate of Nepali Congress (NC) under first-past-the-post (FPTP) category blamed the left alliance for planting an IED in Tute Deurali of Sankhuwasabha with the objective of disrupting NC's mass assembly.
'Blame game' a major strategy of candidates to win votes
After the accusation, the left alliance expressed its disappointment by releasing a press statement. The statement signed by the district coordinator of CPN (Maoist Center) Indra Imsang 'Prakash' and chairperson of the district committee of CPN-UML Laxman Tiwari stated that the responsible leaders of the country should not be making such statements against any party on the eve of the elections. They have also urged the ruling party to stop provoking voters as such accusations may further encourage violent activities ahead of the polls. Not just that, they have even requested all parties to create a free and fair environment for the elections.
Some of the candidates who had already completed their door-to-door campaigns are also revisiting the locals for assuring their votes for the very last time. In each of their mass gatherings, candidates are found spending hours selling lofty dreams and they spend equal time in criticizing their opponents. According to the locals, instead of sharing their own ideas and agendas, candidates spend more time talking about their rivals in programs and even during door-to-door visits.
An interesting electoral battle has been anticipated in the district for the upcoming elections as all parties have fielded strong candidates to counter their rivals. People are desperate to see the new representatives of their province and district.
