People holding public position must obtain permission of the EC to conduct election campaign

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Persons holding public positions must obtain the permission of the Election Commission for conducting election campaigns for the upcoming elections of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Provincial Assembly.

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Persons holding public positions must obtain the permission of the Election Commission for conducting election campaigns for the upcoming elections of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Provincial Assembly.



Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya clarified that all those who hold public positions including the Prime Minister and Ministers must take the permission of the EC to engage in election campaign activities.

Speaking at the press meet program organized at the EC on Wednesday, Thapaliya warned all concerned parties not to misuse any government resources and tools as stipulated in the election code of conduct during the election campaign.


The Election Code of Conduct, 2079 BS stipulates that the Government of Nepal, the Provincial Government and Federal Government, the Ministers of the Provincial Government can carry out election campaign activities with the prior consent of the EC, which will not restrict the publicity campaign as prescribed by the Constitution of Nepal.
