POKHARA, Aug 1: The provincial government of Gandaki is moving forward with a plan to establish a 1000-bed hospital providing facility to treat five major diseases. The provincial government has justified the plan stating that the current infrastructure has failed to ease treatment of people living in Pokhara and the surrounding areas.

Lack of sufficient medical infrastructures has been causing great inconvenience to the general public. People are forced to incur lots of expenses to visit the capital and other places for specialized treatment of some specific diseases.

In such situation, the 1000-bed hospital is expected to bring much needed respite to the people of the province. The hospital would be specialized in treatment of cardiovascular diseases, kidney, cancer, women and children's diseases along with general treatments.

The plan has been forwarded by the Ministry of Social Development of the province. The feasibility study has been completed. The study team submitted the report to Social Development Minister Naradevi Pun on Tuesday.

On June 12, a coordination team, consisting of doctors and economists, was formed under Professor Doctor Druk Bahadur Chhetri as per the ministerial-level decision. The team studied modalities, potential location, necessary infrastructures and human resources among others that would be necessary for the construction.
