Pokhara's air service suspended for two days due to lack of visibility

Due to the lack of flights, the passengers who had to come to and go out of Pokhara to celebrate Dashain have been affected. There were no flights even on Wednesday, the day of Dashain tika. Similarly, the airport said that no flight from Pokhara was able to take place on Thursday as well.

According to Deraj Subedi, the information officer for the airport, the airport, which opens at 6:30 in the morning, has not opened for two days. He said that all flights were canceled due to incessant rain. According to him, at this time there were direct flights from Pokhara to destinations including Jomsom, Kathmandu, Bharatpur, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi. He said that flights to all those destinations have been stopped.


According to Subedi, Buddha Air was making 16 daily flights to Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, Bharatpur, Bhairawa and other destinations at this time. Similarly, Yeti Air had six daily flights to Kathmandu, Shree Airlines had three daily flights to Kathmandu and Guna Airlines had two flights to Kathmandu. He said that flights to all those destinations have been stopped for two days. Likewise, the daily flights of Summit and Tara Air to Jomsom in the Himalayan district of Mustang have also been canceled. At Jomsom, Tara and Summit were operating between six to10 flights a day.


“There is no proper visibility. Therefore, no flight has been able to take place for two days," said Subedi, "The airport itself has not been opened.” Subedi said that at least 70 (one-way) flights were canceled in two days.


According to him, at least 5,000 meters of visibility is required to take off and land at Pokhara Airport. “However, due to rain and fog, the visibility of Pokhara is only 2000 meters,” said Subedi. At this time in Pokhara, flights are operated only until 5:30PM.
