PANCHTHAR, July 12: With an aim to foster cordial police-public relations, Nepal Police has started a nationwide “Police Mero Saathi” campaign from Monday.

Through the campaign, the police hope to maintain law and order by curbing crime, accidents and social anomalies at the community level throughout the country and improve relations with the public at the same time.

The campaign that strives to achieve harmonious relationship between the police and communities they serve would incorporate community-focused activities and programs of the Nepal Police, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kedar Rijal, chief of Mechi Zonal Police.

In Panchthar district, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Keshari Raj Ghimire, who is also the Chief of Eastern Regional Police, inaugurated the campaign in the district headquarters Fidim.

Leaders and cadres of various political parties, representatives of various organizations, students, and locals took part in a rally held to commence the program in the district.

Speaking at the program, DIG Ghimire stressed enhancing the prestige of the police organization by developing a "police is my friend" mindset among people.

“All our community centered programs would be operated under the campaign. Our activities include awareness programs, motivational programs, and nurturing positive relationship between police and public,” he added.

The District Police Office (DPO), Panchthar, have distributed t-shirts with the words “Police is my friend” printed on them, according to Deputy Inspector of Police Krishna Prasad Koirala
