Police seize 634 units of smuggled smartphones

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Police have arrested two persons with a huge number of smartphones from Naghdhunga checkpoint in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning. Police said the smartphones were being smuggled into Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Police have arrested two persons with a huge number of smartphones from Naghdhunga checkpoint in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning. Police said the smartphones were being smuggled into Kathmandu.



Acting on a tip off, a team of police from Metropolitan Police Circle, Thankot, and Metropolitan Police Sector, Naghdhunga, confiscated 634 smartphones from an Indian car with registration number DL 2 CAT 7017.

Those arrested have been identified as Umesh Bhatta, 40, a resident of Kathmandu-34, and Indra Bahadur Katuwal, 35, a resident of Sikharpur Rural Municipality-1, according to police.


The confiscated smartphones are of 18 various brands including Samsung, Oppo, Apple, Redmi, Realme, Mi, Vivo, Xiaomi, Lenova, Huawei, LG and Nokia among others. The arrested couldn't show the purchase invoice during the security check, a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police Range Teku reads.
