Preparation afoot to bring back rhinos swept away by flood

CHITWAN, Aug 16: Preparations are underway to bring back the endangered one-horn rhinos that were swept away or dislocated to various places in the country and bordering India by the recent floods.

CHITWAN, Aug 16: Preparations are underway to bring back the endangered one-horn rhinos that were swept away or dislocated to various places in the country and bordering India by the recent floods. 



The Chitwan National Park's authorities were looking out for the missing rhinos for two days and one was found dead while a two-year-old rhino was detected in Indian settlement and four in the jungle areas of Nepal and India.

Authorities have located a two-year-old baby rhino at Bagaha, 42 kilo metres south east from Balmiki Nagar in India, according to CNP Information Officer, Nurendra Aryal. 


Efforts are in progress to restore it probably today if the traffic in Daunne along the Narayangadh-Butwal road section in Nawalparsai resumed by today. The flood has swept one more to Balmiki Nagar, India. Talks with the Indian sides are being held to fetch the dislocated rhinos from Indian territories, shared Information Officer Aryal.


Similarly, another pachyderm was spotted at Narsahi of a community forest in the Tribeni buffer zone in the district, while the next at a community in Balmiki Ashram. 


Security personnel have been deployed to protect the misplaced one-horned pachyderm. 

The flood in various places across Chitwan district has been wreaking havoc not only to humans but also to the wild animals in the Park resulting in the deaths of animals in several places in the district and within the Park, according to the CNP. RSS
