KATHMANDU, March 12: President-elect Ramchandra Poudel has separated himself from the political responsibilities of his party, the Nepali Congress (NC).
Paudel's personal secretary Chiranjeevi Adhikari informed Republica that Paudel submitted a letter to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday with a statement that he has resigned from all responsibilities of the party.

According to the constitutional provisions, the person holding the Office of President should perform an independent role. Keeping that in mind, the newly-elected President Paudel has submitted a letter that he has resigned from all responsibilities from his party.
Paudel was elected to the post of President on March 9 . He was elected by defeating his rival CPN-UML Vice Chairman and former Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang by more than twice the number of votes. Poudel got 33,802 votes while Nembang got only 15,518 votes.
