People hit hard as consumer price inflation soared 8.64 percent during mid-July and mid-September

KATHMANDU, OCT 22: The consumer price inflation stood at 8.64 percent in the first two months of the current fiscal year, which was more than double of the figure during the period last year.



According to ‘Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal’ unveiled by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Friday, the consumer price inflation during mid-July and mid-September in the FY 2021/22 was 3.49 percent. The rise in consumer price was due to overall increase in prices of food and beverage, non-food and services.


During the review period, the average of food and beverage inflation stood at 8.17 percent while those of non-food and services inflation stood at 9.02 percent. Under the food category, the prices of fruits increased by 17.29 percent while ghee and oil became costlier by 14.53 percent.

Likewise, under the non-food and services category, the prices of transportation escalated by 23.41 percent, the largest of all. Likewise, health service and furnishing and household equipment were expensive by 10.54 percent and 9.25 percent, respectively.


Region wise, inflation in Terai was 9.33 percent, the biggest of all, during the review period. Likewise, the hilly region had inflation of 8.82 percent and it was 7.62 percent and 6.68 percent in the Kathmandu Valley and mountain, respectively, according to the NRB report.
