Prime Minister Dahal announces agreement to reopen all Nepal-China border crossings

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal made a significant announcement after wrapping up his official visit to China. He stated that Nepal and China have agreed to reopen all border crossings between the two countries that were operational before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal made a significant announcement after wrapping up his official visit to China. He stated that Nepal and China have agreed to reopen all border crossings between the two countries that were operational before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.



Upon his return to Nepal, Prime Minister Dahal addressed the media at the Tribhuvan International Airport, sharing insights into the discussions held during his visit. He revealed that both the nations have agreed to reactivate the checkpoints located along the northern border, following the completion of necessary technical preparations.

Prime Minister Dahal further disclosed that the Chinese government has pledged to provide subsidies for the rehabilitation of certain checkpoints. The agreement emphasizes the lawful reopening of all checkpoints, with plans to construct some bridges through grants.


Additionally, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the significance of discussions regarding the regular operations of the Pokhara Regional International Airport. He mentioned that internal preparations are required for this endeavor, which will facilitate bilateral flights between Nepal and China. Furthermore, he said discussions were held about streamlining air travel from various Chinese cities once the requisite procedures are in place.


Prime Minister Dahal took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka for addressing the concerns of teachers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders during his absence from the country.
