Prohibitory order enforced in Butwal after protest intensifies against decision to make Dang capital of Province 5

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The District Administration Office (DAO) of Rupandehi has enforced a prohibitory order in some places of Butwal amid growing protest activities in the area over the  decision of the Provincial Assembly to name Dang as the provincial capital.

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The District Administration Office (DAO), Rupandehi, has enforced prohibitory orders in some places of Butwal amid growing protests in the city against the  decision of the Province 5 Assembly to make Dang the provincial capital.



Tension flared after the proposal to fix Deukhuri of Dang district as the permanent capital of the province was tabled at the provincial assembly for endorsement.


Stating that acts like vandalizing and torching government vehicles, burning tyres and organizing protests had risen, the DAO issued prohibitory orders in a number of places of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City from 10AM Sunday to 6PM October 7.

The administration has prohibited the gathering of more than five people at a time in the prohibited area. Kalika Temple chowk, Itta Bhatta chowk, Tinau Bank and Kalikapath area around the Provincial Assembly Secretariat are among the places designated as prohibited areas.


Similarly, the administration has restricted the gathering of more than five people in places like Sundar Chowk, Bhudki Chowk, Bhatbhateni chowk and Siddhartha Highway around the provincial ministries. The place around the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, too, has been designated as a restricted zone where all kinds of gatherings or protest activities are prohibited.  


The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has launched protests in Butwal following the decision of the Province 5 Cabinet to pick Deukhuri as the permanent capital of the province.
