NEPALGUNJ, Dec 9: The conflict that escalated after a truck hit a student in Kohalpur of Banke district on Sunday has not come under control yet.
The truck (Na 2 Kha 9459) coming from Kohalpur to Nepalgunj had hit Prakiti Chand, a seventh-grader at Tribhuvan Secondary School on Sunday. Students, relatives, and locals had set the fire on the truck after the incident.
Around two dozen protesters were injured when the police opened fire at the protestors on Sunday. In return, the irate locals pelted stones at the police.
Weather to remain clear today
The protesters have continued their protest for a second day on Monday. They pelted stones at police even today.
"The protesters have been staging protests in different areas of Kohalpur while burning tyres since 10 am today," Banke District Police chief Shiva Singh said. He said that the condition was further escalated since 10 am today after the protestors resumed their demonstration.
The long-distance vehicles have been affected due to the ongoing tension in Banke.
The protesters have demanded the resignation of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa. They have also demanded a fair probe into the incident.
The academic institutions in the district have remained closed in the protest of Sunday's incident. The local administration has also announced some places of Kohalpur as a prohibited zone as well.
"A large number of troops from the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been mobilized in the area to maintain peace and security," Chief District Officer Krishna Kanta Upadhyaya said.
