KATHMANDU, April 30: The agitating engineers working on contract basis for the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) have agreed to return to work after the reconstruction body agreed to their demands of extra allowances and perks on Monday.

A meeting of the NRA officials and the protesting engineers mediated by the Nepal Engineers Association (NEA) on Monday concluded after the demands of the engineers were addressed by the authority. The engineers have promised to return to their work to provide technical support to the victims of the 2015 mega earthquake, who are rebuilding their houses.

At the meeting, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NRA Sushil Gyewali directed the engineers to return back to their works saying that their demands have been fulfilled by the authority.

“Reconstruction is a sensitive issue with so many earthquake victims involved,” he said, adding, “The engineers should take the lead in the reconstruction in the municipalities and rural municipalities.”

Engineer Avinash Amar lauded the efforts of the authority and the NEA in addressing the demands of the agitating engineers.

“The agitating engineers would like to thank the officials of the NRA for addressing our demands,” he said.
