POKHARA / MYAGDI, July 16: A whole settlement in Saudha village in Parche VDC of Kaski is at high risk of being swept away by the Madi River.

The river swollen by rains has already swept away a house belonging to one Kanya Kumari Gurung. "We just managed to save ourselves. But we lost all our property. Now we are taking shelter at a neighbor's house," she said.

According to locals, the river's water level started to rise after 11 pm Thursday and the locals immediately started leaving the village to safer areas. About a dozen households have left the village, according to locals.

"Everyone in the village is at high risk. Many of those who left the village are taking shelter at their relatives' places," added Gurung.

Spokesperson at the District Police Office DSP Gajur Siddhi Bajracharya said that police have asked locals to move to safety. He said police are helping people to move to safer places.

Meanwhile, a massive landslide has hit Baisari of Bhagwati VDC in Myagdi district causing some displacements, according to Bhim Bahadur Karki, chairman of the Landslides Management Committee in the district.
