KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Defence Minister Minendra Prasad Rijal has given reasons for his resignation. He handed over his resignation letter to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Thursday.
He said in the letter, "It is clear the election results of the 14th National General Convention of the Nepali Congress shows that the base of my support within the party has been narrowed."

“With this in mind, it is not morally appropriate for me to remain in the post of Minister of Defence,” he further added.
He also thanked PM Deuba for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Minister for Defence. Here is the letter:
