Rural municipality chief offers his salary and perks to school

MYAGDI, Dec 6: Chairperson of a rural municipality in Myagdi district has contributed his salary and perks for purchasing land for a community school. 



Sat Prasad Roka, chairperson of Mangala Rural Municipality, has provided Rs 350,000 from his salary and perks to Kisani Basic School of Sirkum. Roka told Republica that he offered the money to the school to buy the land. "I have utilized the money provided by the government for the welfare of public," said Roka, adding, "I have a desire to provide similar help to all wards if required."

He said he wants to invest in education, health and other infrastructure. 


During the campaign ahead of local elections, Roka had reached Sirkum where he saw students studying in open ground in lack of building. He had then assured to provide help to those students. 


The school's principal, Resham Sapkota, expressed his gratefulness toward Roka and said, "This help has been a great relief for us. We have been assured similar help in future."


The two buildings with two rooms each was constructed with the grant from Education Development and Coordination Unit. A total budget of Rs 1.6 million was spent on the school.


There are altogether 165 students in the school, which runs classes up to eighth grade. In lack of proper income source, locals contribute around Rs 50,000 per month for the salary of the teachers.
