KATHMANDU, June 19: In view of the June 28 local elections, the Election Commission has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to grant a four-day holiday to schools of provinces 1, 5 and 7. The Ministry of Education is also asked to abide by the decision.

A board meeting of the election body took the decision to this effect upon reaching a conclusion that most of the teachers will be involved in managing the elections while the schools and other government buildings will be used for election purpose.

“Since schools and other government offices will be occupied for election purpose and teachers will be deployed to conduct the elections, the concerned ministries have been asked to grant a four-day holiday starting from January 25,” said EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.
