KATHMANDU, April 16: The government has urged the schools with high numbers of students to run the classes in shifts in view of the rising risk of the COVID-19 infection across the country.
Issuing a public statement on Friday, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology directed those concerned not to hold any sort of gatherings/events at the educational institutions. The list of activities that are restricted by the ministry includes assemblies, ceremonies and anniversaries where a large number of people gather.

The educational institutions have also been directed to adhere to the Framework for the Operation of Schools-2020 issued earlier by the ministry.
Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha during today’s meeting at the ministry, however, clarified that the schools can operate their regular classes in ‘this special circumstance’ adopting all precautions against the disease. He further added that the respective District COVID-19 Crisis Management Centers (DCCMCs) can take necessary decisions regarding the closure of schools if those districts are extremely affected by the pandemic.
According to Shrestha, the DCCMCs of 14 extremely affected districts can close down the educational institutions.
It is to be noted that the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) classified 14 districts as the most affected districts, on Thursday. The list includes Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Rupandehi, Chitwan, Banke, Parsa, Kailali, Morang, Dang, Surkhet, Bara and Banglung. The ministry also urged the parents not to send their children to schools amid the onset of the second wave of COVID-19.
