NEPALGUNJ, July 21: Excessive heat has taken its toll in this city in Banke, affecting daily activities of the locals.

The lack of heavy rainfall since the start of monsoon has made the matter worse this year. With the mercury rising up by the day, government offices and other organizations have seen a thin presence of service seekers over the past few days while the sale of cold drinks has shot up.

Likewise, the pressure of patients with fever, typhoid and diarrhea are also increasing at various health institutions, health workers said.

No rainfall haves also affected paddy plantation. Some of the farmers have opted for different types of irrigation facilities like canal and water boring while those who heavily depend on rains have been affected, leaving much of farmland still barren, said the District Agricultural Development Office.
