KATHMANDU, June 17: The Scrap Dealers Struggle Committee (SDSC) has staged demonstrations in the capital for the second day in a row on Monday against the decision of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to remove scrap yards from inside the ring road.

Scrap dealers organized a demonstration from Maitighar to New Baneshwar on Monday, carrying placards with slogans such as ‘Stop the terror of small kings’, ‘Protect scrap dealers’, ‘Enforce rule of law’, and ‘Respect the court's decision’.

The SDSC has announced that the protests will continue until the KMC’s decision to ban scrap yards within the ring road is revoked. The agitating scrap vendors have maintained that the removal seeks to displace them from their businesses.

Previously, the KMC had announced the removal of waste collection centers via public announcements. However, KMC employed dozers to enforce the removal after waste businessmen refused to comply.
