DHARAN, Aug 22: A patient who was undergoing treatment at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) succumbed to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Saturday.
The hospital administration confirmed that the 67-year-old male patient from Dharan Submetropolitan City-15 breathed his last at 12 pm today. The patient was being treated on a ventilator after his health condition started deteriorating. “The plasma therapy was also performed on Friday evening as his health reported further deterioration,” said BPKIHS spokesperson Dr Nidesh Sapkota. He is the second patient at the hospital to have been treated through plasma therapy. Another patient, however, is improving.

The deceased was having respiratory complications, cough and high fever for the last one week. He was learnt to be suffering from high blood pressure for a long time, according to Dr Sapkota.
He was diagnosed with COVID-19 on August 11 and admitted to hospital on the same day.
His mortal remains will be managed as per the COVID-19 protocol issued by the government, according to Dr Devkota.
With this, Dharan has reported a second COVID-19 related death. Earlier, an elderly woman from Dharan-15 had succumbed to this viral infection.
