Second week of project for waste workers conducted successfully

KATHMANDU, May 31: The second week of Waste Workers Emergency Relief Project (WWERP) jointly conducted by CREASION Nepal and Coca-Cola Foundation has been successfully conducted at various locations in Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Kirtipur.

KATHMANDU, May 31: The second week of Waste Workers Emergency Relief Project (WWERP) jointly conducted by CREASION Nepal and Coca-Cola Foundation has been successfully conducted at various locations in Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Kirtipur.



According to a press statement, a team from the project reached out to around 160 waste workers and provided them jumpsuits and ration packages.


The distribution in Bhaktapur was facilitated by Doko Recyclers, and the local government.

Also, in Kathmandu, waste workers were provided with the essentials amid an event held at the Rashtriya Sabha Griha (City Hall) in the presence of the Mayor of Kathmandu, Bidhya Sundar Shakya.


In addition to this, over 252 ration packages and 175 safety gears which includes protective jumpsuits, masks and boots, were provided to  waste workers of various areas such as Kritipur, Durbarmarg, Ratopool, Tokha and Budhanilkantha  last week.


These distribution programs were conducted successfully under the facilitation of consortium partners Blue Waste to Value, Women for Human Rights, Himalayan Climate Initiative and Nepsemyak.


The WWERP project which formally commenced on 15th May, 2020 has so far benefited over 1,100 waste workers by providing them ration packages and safety gears along with awareness programs and medical consultations.


The project was initiated in a response to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and aims to benefit more than 3,200 waste workers across the nation.
