Shaligram weighing 500 kg found in Ruru

KATHMANDU, March 21:  A Shaligram weighing 500 kg has been found in Ruru, a religious and tourist area of Gulmi.

KATHMANDU, March 21:  A Shaligram weighing 500 kg has been found in Ruru, a religious and tourist area of Gulmi.



The Shaligram found on the banks of Kali Gandaki River in Riddi which falls in Ruru region has been kept in Hanuman Batika by the locals for worship.

According to local resident Sundar Kashju, small Shaligrams are found on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, however, the big ones are rarely found. Although Shaligram is found in different colors and types, Hindus have been worshiping the black one.


Shaligram is found in Gandaki originating from Damodar Kunda and Kagbeni, the confluence of Kali coming out from Muktinath to the lower coastal areas.
